Roman Okonowski would like to meet with the new membership committee after our regular meeting on Friday, December 3rd.  The purpose of this meeting is to generate ideas on how to promote membership.

Ralph Cunningham turned in part 1 of the membership application for Catherine Steiner last week.  Since there were no objections, she will be invited to a meeting.

Lisa Wolfe attended our meeting today as guest of Gary Nelson.  He completed part 1 of the membership application which is now available online.  Lisa is a marketing representative whose specialty is broadcast marketing (radio, television) but can also help you with print advertising.

Carole Weishaar knows of an event planner that would like to join the group but she needs to make sure there are no conflicts before proceeding with the application process.

The last golf outing was rained out.  We will try again on December 10th.  Please contact Jim Crosman to sign up.

The holiday party is on December 3rd.  Information was sent out in the mail.  If you did not get your invitation, please contact Althea Bussert.   Payments are due in advance.  There is a deadline so please get your payments to Althea ASAP.  There will be lots of surprises throughout the evening so don't miss it!

The board has decided to bill for social events in advance.  We have had several occasions in the past where members have signed up for events but did not pay their fees.  This is not fair to the rest of the membership.  Prepayment is a common practice in other groups.

Notable Mentions

If you would like to join Jana Greene on the Sunshine Committee, please stay after for a brief meeting on Friday, November 19th following our regular meeting.  This committee will formulate guidelines to address what the group should do in the event of births, illness, deaths, etc.  We need to decide on the appropriate gift (card, flowers) and monetary values.  It is also important for members to let Jana or a board member know if they are aware of such events so that we are consistent in our giving and nobody feels left out.

The new brochures are now available.

The board will meet after next Friday's regular meeting to briefly discuss plans for the holiday party.

Beware of dogs!  Amy Ahrensdorf reminded members that visit clients at their homes to be very careful.  She has been involved with 3 incidences involving dogs attacking people.  Her most recent experience happened Halloween night when a young boy that was with her son was almost killed.  Chris Curran added that if you have a dog to make sure you are careful.  Unless you can prove that your pet was provoked, you are held liable for any resulting injuries or death.  From an insurance perspective, Roman Okonowski told us that they now ask about pets when writing policies and many won't underwrite you if you have certain breeds.

Question of the Day

None.

Main Speaker

Carole Weishaar
AB Weaving Interiors

Carole Weishaar was born and raised in the Pacific northwest.  She and Ray have six children and lots of grandchildren to keep them busy.  But she still finds time to pursue her passion and her career.

Here passion is the Desert Cancer Foundation which she started six years ago.  Carole is a 2-time cancer survivor along with her mother and sister.  She lost a friend with the same type of cancer.  Why did she survive and her friend didn't?  Carole believes there is a reason and that is why she started the foundation.

Carole's background is in sales management and marketing.  She spent 16 years as an account executive for a food broker in the northwest.  She moved to Phoenix 14 years ago.  After moving here she took some time off to try to find balance again in her life.  She had to decide what she wanted to do when she "grew up."

She had a friend that talked her into pursuing a career in travel.  She took some classes and got her degree in travel and tourism.  She didn't make much money starting out.  So she figured she might as well be her own boss and not make money.  Things took off.  She had a beautiful, spacious office.  She had inside and outside agents working for her, payroll, etc.  She had a ball for 4 years.

The 4 years ended and the decline began.  Carole had to reassess her business strategy.  She went through this cycle 3 times.  She now works from home.  No employees.  No headaches.  She partners with 8 other agents to share bonding, buying power and more.  She is independent but she is not alone.

Carole loves being a travel agents because she gets to see dreams come true and help people out when they are in crisis.  She does more than just cruises.  She can do anything because "she has people."  You can't be an expert on every package and every destination so it is important to have contacts.  And Carole does.

Carole has people that do specialty tours.  If you need something unusual, Carole can put the pieces of the puzzle together for you.  In fact, the more unusual it is, the more she enjoys it.

There are many packages already out there.  Carole has brochures on most all of them.  Don't shy away from a trip because you think it won't be affordable.  You would be very surprised at what she can do for you.

Airline tickets are another story.  She has to charge a fee so if you can get them on your own, you might save.  But if she books the flight as part of a travel package, she can waive the fee.

So go for it!  Let Carole help you make that dream of yours come true.
