Business Spotlight

Jana Greene was today's Business Spotlight.  Spring is flower time.  St. Patrick's Day has become a bid adult holiday with lots of parties.  Jana has a lot of fun things available for this holiday.  Of course, Easter is around the corner.  She has beautiful corsages and center pieces available for this special day.  Secretary/Administrative Assistant/Whatever - Day is also coming up.  If you need ideas...Tulips are the hot ticket right now.

Notable Mentions

The brochure deadline was today.  Members have until the this afternoon to get their changes over to Stuart Schindler.

A member asked about the process of bringing in a guest speaker.  We do now have a Guest Speaker Committee that you can go to with your outside speaker suggestion.  They will determine if the speaker and topic are appropriate.  Jim Bache currently resides over that committee.

Question of the Day

How do you dispose of fluorescent lights?

The laws are different by state.  But general rule of thumb is that they are more strict with businesses than they are with residential.  If you are a business, your safest bet is to dispose of them properly...not in the dumpster!

Main Speaker

George Hesche...One Whacky Wop!

Today was show-and-tell for Joe Hesch (a.k.a. Joe Hesche, Mr. Nag-464, Mrs. Curran and George).  He showed us old sports jerseys, sweatshirts, pictures of his kids (they got their dad's smile), plaques that he is "proud of?" and even his ex-wife's license plate.

Joe was born in Minnesota.  His father was a trainer for IBM.  This job required a lot of travel.  His dad wanted to spend more time with his family so he left IBM, moved his family to a small North Dakota town and opened a shoe store.  This may not have been the wisest business decision but it set the stage for a happy childhood for Joe and his two younger sisters.

Wahpeton had only 8500 citizens.  They were the 6th largest city in North Dakota.  Living in a small town meant that Joe could do anything.  He was on track, football and basketball.  He was proud to be a Wahpeton "Wop".  He proudly made his first basketball dunk...spraining both wrists in the process.   He was 3-years varsity on a football team that was nothing if not consistent...They lost every game but 1 in those 3 years that Joe played.  (Rumor has it that the team they beat was from an all-girls school.)  And then there was track.  Joe's track coach loved him.  Joe wasn't the fastest guy on the team but the coach could always count on him to give the tired track stars a brief rest during the relays.

Joe was recruited by many colleges because of his great athletic background.  But he made the wise choice.  He went from Wop to Beer Wolf.  Four years, three colleges, 13 apartments and 14 roommates later her graduated from Moorehead College.

Joe's work history was just as colorful as his educational experiences.  He sold insurance for a "shady" company, managed a liquor store, ran a print company into the ground, sold software, trolls and other stuffed animals.  His first experience in the finance field came when he took a job selling mobile home financing.  This job required a lot of traveling for not a lot of money.

In1994 Joe got married.  Not long after that he moved to Arizona.  He didn't know many people so he joined the Mesa JC's.  This is where he met Chris Curran and Mike Whalen.  He was a highly decorated member of this organization.  They even cared enough to spell his name right on the plaques they presented him in honor of his "character".

Joe's personal life has gone through big changes.  He got divorced in the fall of 2002.  She got the car, he got the license plate.  After this experience, Joe went through a period of rediscovering himself where he lived with Chris Curran and made questionable advertising choices.  But he is back on track now for the better.  He is getting remarried this fall and will become dad to 2 young boys.  He is already practicing for the role.  He attended his first parent-teacher conferences last night.  He still has his hair...We don't know about the teacher.

Joe's career as a mortgage banker has also gone through many changes.  Unfortunately, that is the nature of the business.  His most recent affiliation, as of March 1st, is with Legacy Home Mortgage.  This new affiliation will allow him to expand into commercial and equity loans.  They also offer more locations throughout Arizona.  But, for the most part, not much will change for Joe except the name on his door.

The market in the Valley right now is seeing incredible appreciation.  Joe is doing a lot of investor loans.  About 75% of his business right now is with interest-only loans.  But this product is not a good idea for everyone.  Before deciding to do a new loan, let Joe go over your individual situation and determine which type of loan will work best for you.
