Lisa Wolfe is getting the ball rolling on the holiday party.  She asked the membership if they preferred a Friday or Saturday night event vs. a weeknight.  While most members preferred the weekend, getting weekend space this late might be difficult.

Business Spotlight

"The truth?  You can't handle the truth!"

Dave Lathrop was today's Business Spotlight.  He is here to answer any burning car questions you may have.

What is the truth behind the recent trend in employee discount pricing?  What has happened is that they accelerated the buying cycle and we now have a large supply of used cars.  The supply and demand his been thrown off and the market is screwed up.  The employee discount pricing was legit.  The dealers just shifted the way they make money.  You need to focus on the fine print.  The best advise is to research a car before you buy it.

Why the haircut?  He felt like it...and something to do with a disassociation with his own identity.

What's in the future for SUV manufacturing?  We probably won't see a drastic change unless gas hits $5.  It is the large families that need the large vehicles but fall in the low income range that are being hurt.

Should you buy a car the first year it comes out?  You should wait 8months to a year before buying a new model.  Usually they have all the kinks worked out by month 6.  But since we are in a severe climate region, it is not a good place to test your luck.

How do you get your wife out of the car buying experience?  They say that women make 80% of the car buying decision.

Is it ever a good time to buy a new car?  No.  Dave's pitch is that he can help you make the worst financial decision of your life.  Cars do not hold their value and they will always cost you.  You need to consider why you are buying a particular car.  How much are you willing to spend?  How long will you keep it?  What will maintenance be like?  When deciding on a car you should try to keep emotion out of the decision as much as possible.

Main Speaker

Jana Greene
B&B Florist & Design Center

Jana was borne in California.  She grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and attended college in the Pacific Northwest.  She earned her degree in journalism.  She realized at her first job as a reporter that her personality was not conducive to asking people intrusive questions.

Jana had a friend that was a florist and Jana thought it looked interesting.  But she never thought she had the artistic talent to do it.  So she began as a driver (which didn't make her parents happy).  She soon discovered she had a nice mix of some design talent and business skills.  She decided to open her own store.  That was over 20 years ago!

For MABE...

  • You get a 10% discount on any local orders.

  • The transfer fee is waived on non-local orders.

  • If you or a child are getting married, she will waive her normal $25 wedding consultation fee.

  • Special care on standing orders.

For your business...

Jana doesn't sell flowers.  She sells emotions.  Flowers say what words can't say.  Make an impression through your HR department by sending flowers to your employees on their special occasions.

And don't forget your customers.  In fact, this is the best time of year to remember them.  Send them an arrangement at Thanksgiving instead of Christmas like everyone else.  You will stand out.  Make yourself even more noticeable by adding your own promotional items to the mix.  Jana can work with you to design the perfect business gift.

About the competition...

They don't take the extra care that Jana does to preserve the flowers and ensure their longevity.  She makes sure her flowers are well hydrated before she puts them in your arrangements.  She takes it even further by educating the client on what they should due to preserve their arrangements.  Grocery stores don't do this.  That is why they fall apart the second day.

When placing your order...

Make sure to give her as much information as possible to ensure a smooth transaction for everyone.

  • Have the recipients first and last name.

  • Have their full address.

  • Have at least one, but preferably two, phone numbers for the recipient.

  • If flowers are going to a business, please let Jana's staff know this and provide the business name.

  • Provide a phone number where you can be reached in case there is a problem with the order.

  • While Jana can process same-day orders, it is always best to give at least a 2 business days' notice.  This is especially important if you have special requirements such as a particular flower that may need to be ordered.

Don't delay...Place your holiday orders today!
