Landmark Restaurant on Thursday, December 8th. It will be
an evening of dinner, music and dancing. Spanky Moskowitz
has graciously volunteered his DJ services. We will also
have game tables. Dinner will be buffet-style with 2
entrees. The cost will be $45 per person. Just a
reminder, there will be no meeting the following morning.

Notable Mentions
The new MABE brochures are
now available!
Diamond prices are sky
rocketing. Phyllis Prater offered to provide an appraisal
upgrade to MABE members.
Business Spotlight
Gary Nelson was today's
Business Spotlight. Business has been going very
well despite the 20% increase in concrete prices this year.
Gary is scheduled 2-3 weeks out to the end of the year. As
many of you know, Gary has been very vocal about the quality of
his construction work over prefabs. But life can take
funny and ironic turns. Paddock asked BBQ Builders to
install their prefabs which Gary agreed to do if they let him
provide the grill along with the service and install. His
company did such a good job on these installations that the
manufacturer approached them about doing more. Then Shasta
got in on it. One thing Gary knows how to do is be
flexible and go where the wind blows.
Main Speaker
Bill
Lalonde
True Blue
Pools, Inc.
Bill grew up in Michigan.
He worked for General Motors for 25 years and 1 month before
retiring and moving to Arizona. His two sons moved here
first and started up successful pool cleaning services.
When Bill arrived it only took him a month to find and purchase
a small route for himself. Eventually all 3 companies
merged into one.
About 7+ years ago they got
their contractors licensed and began doing remodels. Then
they ventured into building new pools and things have just grown
from there. They have one man left running the
service-side of things. But once he leaves they will
probably stop providing this service.
Bill thought he would try
something new today and talk about somebody else's business.
He recently took a tour of the Cardinal's stadium which is
currently being constructed. It is an amazing project that
is different from anything that has been built to date.
For instance, the entire field will be out of the stadium most
of the time. The field is so large that they could play
professional soccer on it. The roof is made of a fabric
material that will be supported on 4 super columns. And it
does not open straight across like other stadiums, but rather at
a slope. The site is on 165 acres that will offer 14000
on-site parking spaces. There will be 88 suites that are
going to be very nice when completed.
But beyond the stadium
construction, Bill was even more impressed with the company
behind the project. Hunt Construction has been a
family-owned business for 3 generations. They have
$6-8 billion in projects going on at any given time. They
have built arenas, stadiums, ballparks, medical centers and
more. What is particularly neat about this company is that
they have never failed to complete a project. One person
commented that they never have problems with Hunt's projects.
They keep things running very smoothly.
True Blue Pools can also
boast about the level of quality on their projects. Both
sons handle sales and are very hands-on during the construction
phase. They try to be very proactive if any problems do
arise.
