Business Spotlight

Mike Whalen was today's Business Spotlight.   Mike has been in business since 1986.  He began by manufacturing team trophies and awards.  He then expanded into high-end corporate awards and the imprinted sportswear.  He also offers promotional advertisement products.  His latest endeavor has been to get his general contractor's license.  He would eventually like to get into building custom homes.

Main Speaker

Randy Clark
Affirmative Carpet Care

Randy Clark is the owner-operator of Affirmative Carpet Care.  He cleans carpets, upholstery, ceramic tile and grout.  Rather than dive right into the "nasties", he started with a brief history (until members were done eating breakfast).

Randy is a native Arizonan.  The only time he has been away from Arizona is when he did a turn as a firefighter in the Air Force.

Randy's career in the carpet cleaning industry began with a job at a major chemical company that manufactured cleaning solutions.  He worked his way up from sweeping floors to a desk job as a purchasing agent.  But it didn't take long for him to realize that desk jobs were not for him.

During his 10 years with this company, he learned a lot about chemicals and how carpets are made.  Getting into the cleaning side of the business was not much of a stretch for him.  He began doing jobs on evenings and weekends until he had enough of a client base to leave his job and go into business for himself full time.

Randy has owned his own business for 10 years.  It has grown by referrals which says a lot about the quality of work that he provides.  His son James came on board 3 years ago.  He now does about 80% of the cleaning so Randy can focus on marketing and education.

All carpet cleaners are not the same.  There are many things that separate Affirmative Carpet Care from the competitors.  Training is one thing.  An industry association called the IICRC offers accredited training classes to cleaners world wide.  But only a fraction of the cleaners in Arizona attend these courses.

Another thing that sets his company apart is Randy's knowledge.  Most carpet cleaners began pushing a wand for another company that didn't train them to do things the correct way.  These cleaners assume they can make tons of money doing it themselves only to find out that the money isn't there if they aren't good enough to draw repeat business.  This is why so many cleaning businesses are short lived.   Randy, on the other hand, has a wealth of information about how carpets are made and how to properly treat and clean them.  He knows the best way to succeed in this business is to meet or exceed the customers expectations and earn their repeat business.

Many people initially go with another cleaner for price.  Don't be fooled by their sales pitch.  They may start of cheap but when they are done adding in all the extras you will be paying what Randy charges for his services.  Unfortunately, the quality won't be there.

Randy has several plans available to meet the needs of clients with different lifestyles.  He can go over them with you and find a plan that would work best for you and your carpet.

I won't go into the gory details about dust mites.  Just remember that this is just one of the areas Randy can help you clean up.  He can also offer advice on spot cleaning and if you are a customer, he will send you free spot cleaner anytime you need it.  Education is another thing he can help you with.  Talk to him before you replace your carpet.  If there is no time, just remember to only get 100% nylon.  The rest is garbage!
