Notable Mentions

Gus Dekavallas recommended a new venue for our Friday morning breakfast meetings.  A new place is opening up soon called the Cheesecake Cafe.  He has talked with the owner and he said he is able to keep the price the same as what we pay now.

Business Spotlight

Andy Jensen
Smith Barney

The market is extremely volatile right now.  Andy recommends that clients continue to put money into their portfolios.   Historically the stock market always provides the best return on investments.

In response to some of your questions...

  • Commodities are ten times more volatile than yesterday.

  • The headlines do scare people.  People can get too much information.

  • 80% of trading is done by institutions.

  • The feds raise interest rates to take money out of the system and lower rates to pump money back into the system.

  • Gold is increasing now.  It is just an area of the market playing catch up.

  • The dollar is doing fine.

  • He can see the market continuing to be "choppy" through the summer. This is the first real correction we have had in 3 years.

To summarize...Don't jump out the window!

Main Speaker

Jim Crosman
Crosman Pest Control

To fully appreciate a speech by Jim Crosman you really have to be here.  It's all in the delivery.  Case in point, the "Buckwheat" story.

Jim is from Illinois.  He graduated from high school in 1963.  He became a barber but had to quit because he developed back problems.  He went into construction for a while (which was actually easier on the back).  During this time he divorced his first wife but 3 years later married a sweet young lady.  Their son has asthma so the doctor recommended that they move to Arizona.

Jim's first job in Arizona was running a detail shop but the workload was too hard.  After quitting he looked into franchises.  But at 50-years-old he took a job working for a pest control company.  He recommended to the owner that they start knocking on doors to increase the client base.  So after spraying houses in an area Jim started knocking on doors.  He took this company from 800 clients to 3000.  Jim eventually started his own pest control company.  He started with 50 clients and now has 1500.  His son was in the business for a while but complained that the heat was too much and moved to San Diego.  But now he is back and ready to take over. The timing is good because Jim is burning out. Jim also flew his nephew here and gave him a job.

In response to some of your questions...

  • African bees have bred with our honey bees but they are still aggressive.

  • Jim has seen some fabulous homes that are roach infested.

  • Scorpions are hard to kill.

  • Jim is familiar with the new systems in the wall. But bugs are not in the walls.  They come in through doors, windows and cracks. Many that have had these systems stopped using them because they still had to have their yards sprayed.

  • Permaguard is good for certain bugs but it has to go in the right area.

Jim closed with the "Teddy Bear" and "Inflated Dog" story.  You had to be here!
