Business Spotlight

Bob Becker
Sun View Realty

The residential market has changed drastically.  A year ago home builders wouldn't even consider selling a home through an agent and paying the commission.  Now they are willing to pay higher commissions and offering incentives to get you to buy a new home.  They are still selling homes but its slowing down.  Everything got so overpriced.  California investors and interest rates caused the overpricing.  But the market will correct.  The commercial market was not so crazy.  But space is going for about $100 more per square foot over a year ago.  With the high prices and built-in cost of living increases, I don't know how people are going to afford their rent?

Main Speaker

Guy Sawyer
Tile Plus

Guy Sawyer was born in North Dakota during a blizzard.  His parents moved to Oregon when he was one.  It was during the depression and when they arrived his dad's job was no longer there.  His father had no job, 3 kids and no place to live.  They managed to survive 11 years there before moving to Arizona for work.

Guy  met his wife after college.  They found out that they went to the same high school and college and never knew each other.  But they did dislike the same people in school so it gave them plenty to talk about on dates.   They have two boys.  Danny is very independent.  He worked for Guy for a time.  Guy fired him twice and Danny quit twice.  Tim, the youngest, has no goals or ambition. He just enjoys life.

Guy's sister knew from day one that she wanted to be a nurse.  Guy still doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up.  But he has found something he enjoys doing while he figures it out.  He loves working with his hands and operating Tile Plus.

Its all in the bucket.

Guy never realized it until Roman pointed it out at a meeting...His whole life has revolved around a bucket!  It all began as a small child.  His sister was responsible for watching him during the day but she wanted to get a job picking beans to earn money.  Guy had to go too.  The job involved sitting on a bucket!

As a teen Guy earned money washing cars...using buckets!

Guy left home in a huff because he didn't want to empty the trash.  Living on his own required more money than he realized.  He took an extra job catching scorpions.  Tools of the trade included tweezers (and later, salad tongs), a black light and...you guessed it...a bucket!

And now he owns and operates Tile Plus.  He spends the better part of the day supervising from his thrown...the infamous bucket!

Guy eventually plans to give up the bucket when he retires to his cabin up north (which he built...probably using a bucket).  But he said he probably won't retire until they stop making buckets or when he can't get off one.

Tip of the day:  Make sure you have an FHA approved shower drain.  Its a must.

Being part Irish, Guy lives by this philosophy...

Philosophy Of Life

In life, there are only two things to worry about, either you are well, or you are sick.

If you are well, there is nothing to worry about, but if you are sick, you have two things to worry about; either you will live, or you will die.

If you live, there is nothing to worry about, if you die, you have two things to worry about; either you will go to heaven or to hell.

If you go to heaven, there is nothing to worry about, but if you go to hell, you'll be so busy shaking hands with your friends, you won't have time to worry!
