Business Spotlight
Speaker Coordinator Denver
Johnson has decided to arbitrarily assign Speakers and
Spotlights. This will save him and future coordinators the
time-consuming burden of having to call on people every week.
If you are assigned to speak but cannot, let the coordinator
know so other arrangements can be made.
Main Speaker
Ralph
Cunningham
Cunningham Computer
Service
Ralph Cunningham is originally
from Salt Lake City,
Utah. He had a lot of fun growing up with his crazy friend
Kevin. Even as young high schoolers they were playing with
electronics and making strange things happen. They
even invented the original Clapper. Kevin had an
attic-loft bedroom. They rigged it so that his lights
would turn on and off by touch and then by sound. It was
great until a thunderstorm hit and between the noise from the
thunder turning the lights on and his dad's yelling about the
lights causing them to
turn off...the Clapper had to go. Today's Clapper is a
little more sophisticated.
Ralph is married
to Sandra. She has three kids. He has three kids.
Their kids now have kids. Ralph has concluded that they should
have started with the grandkids first.
A few months ago Ralph made a
decision to turn off the
TV and started reading and meditating. He also
needed a deviation from his hermit-type lifestyle behind the
computer so he and his grandson began playing with rocks.
They cut them open to see what's inside. They add lights
and create gadgets that take you back to the 70's. It may
sound silly but if "its not illegal, immoral or fattening...why
not?"
Trivia Question:
Most people are familiar with the most common states of
matter...gas, liquid and solid. But what is the fourth state
of matter? Highlight the enclosed area to reveal the answer
(Plasma).
Some Computer
Facts:
-
Computers are a lot more
user friendly than they used to be. No, its true.
-
We
are moving away from analog and into digital
-
Manufacturers
have almost doubled the speed of computers every year.
But they can't get too much faster than 3GHz. The
silicon can't handle anything much higher. The next step is
multiprocessors.
-
MAC now has a machine that
can run both platforms. But the Office package won't work
on both so you must buy and install both versions (MAC and
XP).
-
Don't run out and be the
first on your block to own
Office 2007. Let
someone else be on the bleeding edge. New software
always has glitches and problems. Wait at least a year
for all the bugs to be discovered and worked out.
-
Buying a new laptop?
Don't buy Compaq or HP. Around 13 months they start to
run hot and die. Don't buy E-machines either.
Ralph doesn't usually recommend extended warranties but if
you buy a laptop get one. If you screen cracks or
anything else goes wrong the entire unit it useless.
-
Be prepared. Vista is
very demanding on resources. You will need a system
capable of handling the load.
-
All major brands have
lowered quality and
are putting in cheaper components
to lower prices.
-
The best
backup is an external hard drive. It is inexpensive
and easy to use. Ralph also recommends online backups.
There is software to backup only that day's changed files.
They can also save revisions.
