Membership Coordinator Guy Sawyer  wants your ideas and suggestions.  When talking about membership in the past the discussion has been dominated by numbers.  We need to think outside of the box.  For instance, Guy knows several people that can't join our group for good reason but would make great referrals if MABE had a referral list.

  • Make it fun.  Have another membership drive.

  • We are limited because we don't allow members from other groups to join.

  • We may run into category conflicts if we have more than 50 members.

  • I have a list of people that would make good members but may not qualify as business owner.  (NOTE: They can be a decision maker)

  • Quality of members is more important than numbers.

  • We have strict requirements to join.  It can be good but it also prevents us from bringing in many members.

  • I thought those were guidelines not requirements (NOTE: They are in the bylaws - requirements)

  • New blood makes a group thrive.  We need younger blood.

  • We are more of a business group than leads group.

Main Speaker

Over the past four weeks our
speakers have cancelled at the last minute.

THE PROBLEM:  Over the past four weeks our speakers have cancelled at the last minute.
Mike Tanner and Nick Mawrenko have had to scramble at the last minute to fill the time slot.

your RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Throw questions in a hat and pull from it when the speaker cancels.

  • Have more round table discussions.

  • It seems fair to make the canceling speaker find their replacement.  Last time around we included special programs so we had flexibility to rearrange the schedule if needed.

  • With the new schedule there is a special program scheduled every 6 weeks.  The speaker is pushed out further so it will be more important when you do speak.

  • We don't need to be entertained.  Just add small group discussions.  They can be great.

  • It is a lack of professional courtesy.  I think of MABE as my biggest client. I wouldn't dream of canceling at the last minute.

  • A speaker schedule was sent around and members should have been professional enough to mark their speaking date on their calendars. There should be few excuses for last minute cancellations.

  • One of the greatest fears we have is the fear of speaking.  It might help to give speakers ideas.  And members might be more excited about coming to the meetings it we announced the speaker's topic in advance.
