Notable Mentions

Please keep Jana Greene in your thoughts and prayers.  Her husband Terry passed away on December 31st.  A note from Jana...

Ive been receiving calls from some of the MABE members wanting to know if Terry had a favorite charity.  Theyd like to do something to honor his memory.

Our long-term favorite charity is Friends for Life in Gilbert. They are a no-kill animal adoption agency where we adopted 2 of our 3 kitties. http://www.azfriends.org/ is their website. I just checked and there is a link on their home page to make a donation using Pay-Pal. Terry just mailed off a check for $500 to them the day before he died. Thanks for asking.

Love,
Jana

Carole Weishaar has also asked members to keep her and her family in their prayers.  Her daughter is still in the process of trying to adopt a child and because the process has taken so long, Carole must go down to help so her daughter can return to work.

Question of the Day

How did your business do in 2006?

  • Mike Tanner - Gross sales up 8 percent.  I thought we had done better.  But the last two years we have been in the black.

  • Dave Lathrop - Up 20 percent.

  • Steve Chilton - Sales up 60 pecent but profitability down so doing something wrong.

  • John Passante - My first 10 months in Arizona I doubled what I did in Wisconsin.

  • Reg Batt - We did better than the year before.

  • Jeff Sobkoviak - We've been in a good position the last 3 years .  Our mininum growth was near 30 percent.

  • Lisa Wolfe - I'm up about 30 percent but for the first time I am having an issue with collections.

  • Gary Nelson - Business is good but we've had some employee problems.

  • Roman Okonowski - 2006 gross income was relatively flat but final numbers not in.

  • Chuck Hultstrand - Its been an up and down year but overall the same as last year.

  • Joe Zingale -  We've had a lot more problems this year so we must have done better.

  • Bill LaLonde - We are down this year.

  • Jim Crosman - Business boomed so we added drivers.  Now we need more work to pay them.

  • Mark Howard - Business is good for a lot of reasons.

  • Paul Kavanaugh - Started bad but ended with a profit. It was a wild year.

  • Phyllis Prater -  I think my business is up a little but every year it gets harder.

  • Bob Becker- Business basically is in the tank but fortunately I wear four other hats.

  • Jim Bache - Did good.  I have niche market.

  • Joe Hesch - Flat for me this year.

  • Mark Dreher - I never look at those damn numbers! Good year.  Increased staff.

  • Amy Ahrensdorf - My income has been about the same.  However, I continue to change hats which is important to me.

  • Keith Miller - The practice is more like rolling hills (not peaks and valleys). Doing good.

  • Nick Mawrenko -  An interesting thing that l notice happening is our relationships. For instance, a franchise may make it mandatory for franchisees to use his services.

  • Carol Weishaar - l am in an industry paid by commission which is an area everyone tries to cut first.  We moved to the luxury travel arena and business incentive programs.  2006 matched 2005 which was probably my best year.

  • Andy Jensen - My revenue is very contingent on what the market does.  I am up 10 percent.

  • Guy Sawyer - I've probably had only twelve well-paying jobs this year thanks to MABE.

  • Barbara Kollman - My business is up.  The best year ever.  It is my mindset...I have enough work. If they done want to pay for the work I let them go.

  • Althea Bussert - Business for the last two years has been really, really good thanks to a few wealthy clients.

  • Don Ellis - Revenue up about 2 percent but costs are up too.

  • Fred Vandervort - We have been struggling in Mesa so we will probably close that store and consolidate to Tempe.  Losing Motorola caused a domino affect for that Mesa area.

  • Ralph Cunningham - The Mac World and PC World are converging .  You can buy a new computer for less than it would cost to fix one.  I spend most of my time on data recovery.

  • John Gruber - Gross revenues are about the same but because of staff changes we may be more profitable.

  • Mike Whalen - Good year.  Up about 5 percent.  I have been blessed with the best staff.

  • Greg Stewart - Our business is discretionary and follows trends.  We are starting to see the beginning of a recession.

  • Chris Curran - I am running two businesses.  I parted ways with my partner which has reduced overhead. I spent a lot of money this year but I have talented people.
