A message from Jana Greene...

You are invited to a Pizza-Morial celebrating Terry's life.

If you would like to join me in remembering the good stuff, the funny stuff, the ridiculous stuff and the happy stuff about Terry's life please join me Saturday, April 28th at 1 p.m. at
Nello's Pizza on the north east corner of McClintock and Southern (Tempe) in the Basha's Center.

Meet Terry's brother and sister-in-law. Meet Terry's best friend. Eat (free) pizza, talk about rubber monster movies, hamburgers, computers, hiking in the Superstitions, Dr. Pepper and other Terry faves. Win door prizes (you probably won't want).

This is a no-pressure invitation. If you would like to help me take this next step in sending Terry on to the big B-movie theater in the sky you are welcome to come. If you think it sounds boring or morbid don't feel obligated to come. Warning: You may be asked to play kazoo if you do come.

He didn't want a fuss or any kind of a service, but I figure if he had to come to a party, one with pizza and Dr. Pepper would probably have been his first choice.

Please RSVP so that I can get a count for Nello's.

Thanks,

Jana

Question of the Day

How many contacts do you have in your Outlook or binder including family, business associates, etc?  Now, how many of those contacts do you have a "relationship" with it?

Members gave estimates during leads and introductions.  The numbers varied.

So why do this exercise?  The newest brochure comes out in a couple of weeks.  Nick would like to see the group conduct a "Social Experiment".  Hand out a brochure to the contacts you have a "relationship" with.  But don't try to sell it.  Simply say "I am a member of this group and are you interested in a brochure?"   Give out one book a week (although some will do more).  You may find that you are missing a huge opportunity.   It may mean looking at the brochure in a different way for many members.  It may even lead to new members.

Other comments:

  • We have now used up the current covers and are ready to redesign the look.  You input is appreciated.

  • We should send the brochures to former members.

  • We should include a MABE business card with our web address in the brochure.

Main Speaker

Phyllis Prater of Parkway Gem Lab

Phyllis Prater came from Colorado.  She was a war baby.  At 10 years of age her dad was killed in a car accident and she was badly injured.  At 16 her mother married a jeweler.  He moved the family to Arizona. She attended the University of Arizona and worked at the family jewelry store during breaks.  During her junior year she got to be an exchange student in Germany.  She lived with a family that didn't speak English.

After graduating she married and moved to St. Louis where she became a teacher.  Her husband was in the printing business.  After 15 years she came back here as a single parent.  Her mother-in-law paid for the divorce and helped support Phyllis.

She has since remarried.  Their plan was to move to Germany when the kids where out of school.

People plan and God laughs.

Phyllis had a troubled younger sister.  Ten years ago she went to prison while pregnant.  The father was a homeless drug addict.  Phyllis encouraged her sister to find a good family to adopt the child.  Unfortunately, the sister gave the child to the father.

Phyllis had a cop as a client.  She told him about the situation her nephew Josh was in.  Four days later she got a call from the cop.  He "got the kid".   Her husband was less than thrilled about the situation.  Their retirement plans were put on hold.

Phyllis sells jewelry.  She loves jewelry.  She began her own business doing insurance replacement work but has since expanded and built a loyal clientele from referrals.
