Cash Flow...Does anybody else here feel like a banker?   I give someone an invoice but they still expect to wait for a bill instead of paying me upon completion.  On large jobs, contractors are not giving me my draws.  They also expect me to wait for payment even though I have employees and vendors to pay for work already completed.

  • Have on your contract specific terms and enforce them.
  • It is not that they don't want to pay. They don't have the money.
  • You should get majority of your draw (90%) before inspection.
  • Some are not worth taking to court. I have a year-old job that I am still getting payments on.
  • We are facing inflation.
  • If you are lenient with your small jobs won't nave money to wait out draws on larger jobs.
  • Pre-lien your Jobs (Jim Bache can help you with this.)
  • On my invoice I include interest terms and use a line of credit.
  • We are having a gas crisis. It is affecting everyone's mood. But don't mess with our Starbucks!

Just to recap...

Jana Greene is a California girl.  She went to college in the Pacific Northwest.  She got married.  She got unmarried. She got remarried.  She moved to Nevada.  She relocated to Arizona.  She has lots of friends...She is here to stay.

Jana got her degree in journalism.   She liked writing but didn't like interviewing people.  It was too intrusive.  So she went to work for a florist.  Her father wasn't too happy about the fact that his daughter spent four years in college to become a truck driver!  But she soon discovered she had a talent for creating arrangements.  Now she is the owner of B&B Florist and Design.

Men like flowers too...

Father's Day is the next big holiday for Jana.  Despite what you may think, men really do enjoy getting flowers and plants.  But if you are convinced this is still too "girly" for the men in your life, she can come up with an arrangement that doesn't include flowers or plants.  Give her a call.  She can come up with something clever.

Support your local florist...

Sending orders out-of-town? Those 1-800 companies are nothing more than order gatherers.  They take your $100 order, send it to Jana - only paying her about $75  - but she must still give you a $100 arrangement.  This hurts your local florist.  Don't use them.  You are better off dealing with your local florist no matter where you send to.  You have a point of contact that will go to bat for you if something goes wrong.

Be prepared...

Ordering arrangements can be easy for you and the florist if you follow these tips:

  • Try to call at least a week ahead of time.  This gives them time to make the arrangement and get it delivered.  It also gives them time to order the flowers you want if they are not already in stock.

  • Have all the recipient's information...name, address, phone number.  She has a database of hospitals and funeral homes but nothing that includes "Jennifer who works at Piggly Wiggly".

  • Give them all your information too.  They may need to reach you if they run into problems with the order or delivery.

The ideal relationship...

The ideal client for Jana is the corporate client. This is where her focus is.  This type of client wants quality and service...The kind you can't find at the grocery store florist.

The ideal florist is a local shop like B&B Florist and Design.  She does a nice presentation, gives care instructions and plant food.  You get quality and service.  If you go to the grocery store florist you must take what is already arranged.  At Jana's shop you can make your own arrangement.  You get that personal touch.

Where to find Jana...

Anyone that comes to MABE on Friday morning already knows where to find her...the northwest corner of Alma School & Warner (2160 North Alma School Road #118, Chandler, AZ 85224).

But did you know you can also find her on the web at www.bandflorist.com?  Her website has been very good for business.  She brings in an astounding $1000-2000 a month in business for a mere $50 a month expense.  It takes minimal effort and money to maintain.  It is a form of advertising that continues to pay off.
