Notable Mentions
Mark
Howard read from Article XIII of the MABE
bylaws regarding
board of directors and nominations.
It
is time again to "change the guard". We need to vote
in two new board members.
Members nominated the following:
-
Denver Johnson
-
Lisa Wolfe
-
Bob Busch
-
Phil Passante
John
Passante shared a recent "shocking" moment... He
touched a hot wire while sweaty - not a good
combination. It was the worst shock he has ever
had. He was thrown across the room. He broke his
wrist, bruised his ribs and more. He literally
thought he was on the verge of death. The incident
has put him far behind on his work.
Question of the Day
None.

Guy
Sawyer wants to know...
What was your greatest business failure?
We have a
lot of business experience in this room. Along with
the good, it can be just as important to share the bad so we
can all learn from each other's mistakes.
-
Giving
my wife 50% of my business after we got married. I
never planned on divorce. I should have listened
to my lawyer.
-
LLC's
with unrelated parties and no operating agreement
(provisions for buyout, etc.). Things seem good at
first. But I have seen problems arise 3, 5, 7
years down the road.
-
My
partnership falling apart. Emotionally it was hard. I
will never get into a partnership again.
-
Getting
into different auxiliary companies. They seemed like
great opportunities at the time but drained me of money
and time. I learned how important it is to focus or
your main business. Don't spread yourself thin.
-
Partnership with a person that liked to play. He took
his share of the profits and flew around the world. I
got stuck paying all the taxes.
What
have we learned?...Lawyers really aren't bad guys but
partners sure can be!
