Leads & Introductions
Members introduced themselves and announced leads and thank
you's.
Member Spotlight
This week's spotlight is
Denver Johnson. Please keep this member top of mind
this week for referrals.
Membership
Chris Curran brought a guest and potential member today, Julie
Renshaw of Renshaw Accounting Services. Julie has been in
business for 24 years. Her office is located at Broadway &
101. She works with small businesses from start to finish.
They have a very hands-on staff of 3 (soon to be 4). They do
not have a CPA on staff.
Today after the regular meeting the board will meet
to determine which candidate for the insurance category will be
invited to join the group.
Board Elections
Next week we will begin the nomination process for the new
board. Erin LaGrassa will go off the board. Don Ellis
will move into the Historian position. This leaves two vacant
spots to fill.
Meeting Schedule
August 6 - Question of the Day
Open Discussion
Dave Lathrop was curious to know what members thought of the
guest speaker we had last week. Did it make you think about
MABE and our leads process? How do you define a lead?
How can we generate more leads for members?
Don Ellis gets more out of meetings where we have
questions and members participated in the discussions. We gain
a lot from these meetings.
Today's Program:
Member Spotlights - Answering the tough questions!
Andy Jensen was our first member spotlight.
He is from Oregon, married with two children. There are a lot
of people that do what he does so he tries to stress that "there is
no one like you". He takes the time to find out what you need
based on your individual situation. He is more cautious than
he used to be. He tends to be much more conservative. He
doesn't do a lot of advertising as he doesn't find it effective.
Referrals work best for him. His biggest selling point is
honesty and integrity. He will tell you how and when he is
paid. Three years ago he died. He had a sudden cardiac
arrest. Since then he has been very trying to take better care
of himself. He doesn't know what the future will bring, the
markets are unpredictable. His advice for anyone getting
into business today, know that it is challenging. Things are
getting better but slowly.
Joe Hesch was our second member spotlight.
This is his seventeenth year in business. Things have
obviously changed in the industry. He runs his business by the
"seat of his pants." Interest rates are great but the market
is unpredictable. Even the appraisal process has changed.
If you need an appraisal, you will be assigned one in a method that
someone like Joe would have no control over. Over the years
Joe has tried all different methods of advertising. The best
advertising is referrals from satisfied clients. He does
operate by a code of ethics. His industry was like the wild
west. But effective July 1st everyone needs to be licensed and
his company is. This year he is actively marketing his
business. MABE is an important part of that plan. His
bucket list...getting through this tough period. He does see
himself in this business 5 years from now. He will keep on
plugging away and go with the changes. His advice for people
getting into business today, realize it will be difficult and
experience is necessary.
