Today's Program - Ken Sherman, GoProLocal.com "A
Crash Course in SEO"
Ken Sherman was our guest speaker today.
Background
Ken graduated with aeronautical engineering degree. But
industry opportunities were declining. He started a tile and
grout business. It took off. There have been several
other businesses since then. But the website marketing
business is by far the most enjoyable.
Today he wanted to teach us a little about SEO.
He talked about what elements you should have on your site to help
you get a phone call.
We are all busy. We wear many hats as small
business owners. It is tough to focus on a website. The
internet is not the end all, be all. it is only a part of your
marketing. Some other forms of marketing may work better in
your industry. It depends on where your customers find you.
People don't use yellow pages for much more than a door stop
anymore. Direct mail used to work well but pieces seem to go
right to the recycle bin anymore. All my experiences with
radio and TV advertising have been negative. Costs are high
and repetition is necessary.
More and more consumers are finding businesses on
line these days.
-
85% of people search online for a local product
or service first
-
61% of those buy within 24 hours
-
43% of all search is for a local product or
service
That one negative review people find can have a big
impact.
It is important to have correct information so they can contact you.
Everything is going beyond desktop to mobile platforms for
advertising.
The internet is very different than other advertising because you
can engage with potential clients (collect information, opt-ins)
SEO Action Steps - 30-minutes to an hour can make a huge difference.
