Today's Program - A Visit to Berghoff Design
Group
Joe Zingale gave a brief background...
Jeff Berghoff started the business in 1997 out of his condo with
one computer and a small group of people. Not long after he
joined MABE. Things got busy very quickly and his attendance
at meetings suffered. He was about to get kicked out when Joe
Zingale agreed to step in 1998.
They bought an office space in 2000 but quickly outgrew it. They
rented another office but soon outgrew this place. The bad
economy made it afford to buy the current location.
Jeff Berghoff explained the creative side of the
business...
At the start of a project they would take clients
through the design phase. And because they are contractors
they will also build it. They also have a lighting division,
maintenance division and tree company.
Over the years they have expanded because of the relationships they
have created. Their relationship with corporate Home
Depot takes them all over so now they have satellite offices in
Tucson and San Diego.
They don't often get call from home owner to start a job.
Usually an architect or interior designer will bring them in as part
of the team.
Jeff has created a signature look that people are
looking for. They developed a reputation that make people want
to come to them.
After the design phase the move into the
construction phase. This again separates Berghoff Design Group
from the rest. They handle the construction themselves.
The crews understand the signature look. They are masterful
craftsman that know how to execute.
Once done with construction, pass the client on to
the maintenance division. They take care of the ongoing
horticulture care. They have both a commercial and residential
division. They can't compete with small landscape companies so
they focus on the signature homes, mostly in the Paradise Valley
area.
They have been able to weather the storm by making
sound business decisions from the beginning. They had avoided
debt and kept their books clean.
Our new location has set us up for more growth.
We even have room for our own mechanic to work on our vehicles.
The meeting finished with Joe Zingale giving members
a tour of the complex.
