Meeting Update
Dec 9 - Guest speaker Dr. Sarah Tracy.  She will discuss the finer points of happiness.  Bring a guest...it will be fabulous!

Social Event
If you have not already done so, please RSVP for the holiday party.  We are thinking about having a white elephant gift exchange.  Do not spend any money.  Find something in your garage.

Leadership
Some questions/comments to ponder...

  • Do you consider yourself a leader?

  • Are you a leader because you are the owner?

  • Is there a conflict if an employee becomes a leader?

  • You can have an ego and humility at the same time.

  • You can lead by example or use the "Do as I say, not as I do" method.  Both can be affective.

  • Inconsistent behavior, direction, standards creates a lot of dissatisfaction.

  • Does how you behave outside of work affect your ability to lead?

  • I look at the care of their car.  I believe they take that detail over to their work.

  • You can't live a crazy life and expect to lead people.

  • As an owner, is your team their to support you?

  • I don't like babysitting.  The people that last in my organization are self-starters.  (They still complain.)

  • You want to hire the self-starter but then you need to make sure they have the training and tools to get the job done.

  • I see a difference in generations.

  • The best leaders have a servant attitude, thinking first of their team.

  • You have two groups (1) those that are there for a paycheck and (2) those with a thirst for more.  You run into problems when you get someone that doesn't know which they are.

  • Can leadership be taught or are people just born with the right stuff?

  • You have to have the seed and then water it.  Your talent has to be nurtured.

  • Some people you can teach and some you can't.

  • Some people are great #2 people but they will never be able to lead.  And they likely don't want to be the leader.

  • Maybe not "born" that way, but possibly "groomed" that way.  Leaders have a strong desire to have things their way.  Life experiences will mold you to a certain point.

  • Does anybody have a parent or someone they grew up with that they would see as a real leader in their field?

  • Who has influenced you along the way?

  • Is there a difference between a leader and a role model?

  • A leader is someone that inspires others to follow.  A role model is something different.  You need to understand the definition of leadership before you can answer the above questions.  A leader in the field is someone that picks up the flag and moves the troops forward...until he gets hit by a bullet!

Main Program - Phyllis Prater
Time to start Christmas shopping!

There have been huge changes in the jewelry business.  But I have been lucky with contacts that have been around for a very long time.  The industry has learned how to make silver in many different colors.  We have pink, green and blue silver but not at the expensive gold prices.

Phyllis showcased several products.  The common theme this year is glitter!  Austrian crystal is in right now.  Her prices are just 10% above cost so very affordable.
