NEW MEMBER PROCEDURES

Who Can Be Considered For New Membership?

Membership taken from the by-laws of MABE: Sole proprietorship, partnerships, corporations and associations of good character and outstanding and professional reputation. Each shall represent a different business, trade, occupation or profession and shall be classified accordingly. The membership shall belong to the firm and the designated representative or representatives shall be the owner, partner, officer or other executive with policy-making authority. The admission of all members and representatives shall be on invitation by the Board of Directors

What Should Be Discussed With A Prospective Member?

A prospective member should understand even though members exchange leads, the primary focus of MABE is on business support and development.

Emphasis should be placed on meeting attendance and prompt payment of dues.

How Do I Propose A Prospective Member?

  1. ANNOUNCE AT MEETING
    A current member will
    bring the name and type of business forward to the group during a regular Friday meeting. 

    Members have until Tuesday of the following week (3 business days) to make an o
    bjection or express concern.   This communication should be addressed with the board outside of the regular meeting.  (Email*) 

    1. If there are objections - The board will consider them and make the final decision on whether or not to proceed to step 2.

    2. If there are no objections - Proposing member will be advised to proceed to step 2.

  2. VISIT GROUP & COMPLETE APPLICATION
    The prospective member is invited to visit the group at a regular meeting.  The proposing and prospective members can complete and submit the MABE application at this time.  (PDF or ONLINE)

    Upon submission of the complete application to the membership, members have 3 business days to make an objection or express concern.   This communication should be addressed with a board member outside of the regular meeting.  (Email*

    1. If there are objections - The board will consider them and make the final decision on whether or not to proceed to step 3.

    2. If there are no objections - Proposing member will be advised to proceed to step 3.

  3. INVITE TO JOIN GROUP
    The proposing member will invite the prospective member is to join the group. 

*Concerns emailed to the Executive Secretary will be forwarded to the current board


Any member wanting to suspend their attendance from MABE meetings has the following options:

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

With Board approval, that member can take a leave of absence and continue to pay dues for up to 6 months and that member's membership will remain active and that category will remain closed.

After 6 months that member will be asked to rejoin the group or resign from MABE.

A member is allowed only one leave in any 3 year period.

CONDITIONAL RESIGNATION

If a member wants to suspend their membership and not pay dues, their membership is conditionally terminated.

The category that they filled becomes open and a new member for that category can be proposed using the procedures outlined on the MABE web site. 

Any member who conditionally resigns can rejoin MABE at any time within six months provided their category has not been filled.

After 6 months this member would have to reapply to MABE to be accepted as a member.
