Roger Carpenter was supposed to visit our group this morning.  Gus Dekavallas is not sure what happened.  Maybe next week...

Dave Lathrop had an idea to help membership.  He proposed tracking missed leads.  How many times do you have a lead for a vet, for example?  We can track this.  We could show a potential member how successful they could be in the group by telling them how many opportunities they would have had for business.

Robert Busch will have plenty of leads to hand out soon.  He is 99.9% sure that he will be relocating his store.

Today we began nominations for the upcoming board openings (Bill LaLonde and Greg Stewart will be going off).  Dave Spiess and Mark Dreher were both nominated.  The floor will be open to nominations again next week.  Remember to talk to a member before nominating them as they may be asked to take the office of President immediately.

Question of the Day

Hey Joe, what's going on with interest rates?

Joe Hesch - They have been swinging around for the last 90 days.   Refinancing has slowed considerably except to change terms from 30 to 15 years or to go to no-interest loans which can have its advantages depending on your circumstances.

Dean Synan - May is usually not a big month but for the first time we have keyed in an amazing number of new home owners.

Randy Clark - I have seen a huge increase in new home business as well.

Joe Hesch - There is a big housing shortage.  It is a seller's market.  Even home builders are having issues not only because of a shortage of supplies but also because the process of getting permits has slowed.  A lot of people are buying rental properties.  Builders are locking them out.

Dean Synan - There is also a shortage of commercial properties.

Agreements, Conditions and Restoring Trust

What games are you playing?  What is the object of any game?  When a group of people get together to play a game their goals are to win, have fun...be successful.

What games are your employees (or other you are in relationship with) playing? People want to be successful at work too but we usually come with our own set of rules or agenda.

What do you both want and how can it work for both of you? How do we reconcile our differences so that everybody wins?  By establishing ground rules and making agreements.

What are the Established Ground Rules?  You must first layout the rules that won't change - that are not negotiable.  For instance, hours of business.

How will you interact with each other?  These are the Agreements for Success!  Know as giving your word.  The next step is getting together and coming to agreement on issues that are negotiable.  For instance, dress code.  When employees are involved in the process and agree to things discussed, they are more likely to self-monitor and uphold the agreements.  In order to be successful, these agreements must be over-seeable.  For instance,  we can agree to respect each other and further agree that respect means not cussing, raising our voices or gossiping.  If we can observe someone doing these things we can show that they have broken the agreement.  As an employer, you should go into these meetings with an idea of the areas you want to cover.  You may need to have more than one meeting when new employees come on board or you discover something is missing - An agreement may need to be revamped or added.  You may find that during these meetings an employee just won't budge.  If their expectation are different from yours then they may not be a good hire.

When those agreements aren't kept, what do you do?  What is Lost? With whom, really?  When agreements are not kept, Trust is lost within the person that broke the agreement.  We must attempt to restore the Trust.

How do you restore the Trust?

  • Acknowledge the unfulfilled agreement

  • Who is responsible / accepting responsibility

  • What was more important than keeping your word

  • What was the damage (ask)

  • Are you willing to clean up the damage (is it necessary to negotiate)

  • Apologize

  • What will it take to keep your word in the future (structure or support)

  • Recommit, can you be counted on in the future to keep your word

The end result...they will catch themselves!
