This week's leads focus...

Business Spotlight

Chris Curran was today's Spotlight.  Chris spends about 70-80% of his time as a lawyer.  He also "kind of" runs another business on the side.  He told the group that MABE has been wonderful to him.  He wasn't sure what else to say in just a few minutes time so he brought in a print out of his 2005 reading list and quizzed members to see if they new the authors of famous quotes and what the 7th amendment was.  We didn't do too well.

Notable Mentions

Great news!  The City of Mesa wrote Sandra Menasci a check!

Jim Bache needs a legal secretary.  His current secretary is retiring.

Main Speaker

David Lathrop
Vehicle Purchasing Service

The Tonight Show starring Roman Okonowski did a live show today at our meeting.  Roman's special guest was none other than Dave Lathrop, owner of Vehicle Purchasing Service.

THE INTERVIEW

As you know, Dave is the owner of Vehicle Purchasing Service.  Dave was honest when asked what made a good lead for him.  He is not a good match for everyone.  If you like to spend 5 hours sitting at a dealership haggling over price, Dave cannot help you.  But do call him if you want a hassle free car buying or leasing experience.  He can also sell your car if you don't like the idea of strangers coming to your home to see the vehicle.

Dave graduated from Penn State with a degree in engineering but took a different route when Nissan offered him a job.  He spent 4 years with this company.  They transferred him to Arizona.  Tired up uprooting to a new region every year, Dave left Nissan to become the service manager of Sun Pontiac.  But 8 years of this was enough for anyone.  He left to open his own business...Vehicle Purchasing Service.  To explain why he chose this career move he showed the audience a video clip of the typical car buying experience.   He felt that if he could help just one person escape the misery of dealing with car salesmen than it was all worth it.

Dave had a life changing experience when he was 37.  He went through a rather nasty divorce.  But in the process, his priorities in life changed.  He decided that it was time to do all those things that said he would do "someday".  He hiked the Grand Canyon, entered marathons, joined an improv group and got involved with his community.

Two things that he is particularly proud of is his involvement with the Youth at Risk program and his role as a Big Brother.  Dave has been a big brother to 3 very lucky young boys and will be matched up with his 4th sometime next week.  The Youth at Risk program is so happy with his involvement and sincere commitment to their organization that they have paid for his training.  He is now planning on going back to school to get his masters in counseling so he can do even more in this area.

So how much do you remember from today's interview and past appearances on the show?  Take the quiz and see...
