Dave Lathrop completed a new member application for Ryan Bolander of Jump Start Kids Fitness.  Ryan has not been in business for 2 years but Dave has known him for over 5 years and believes he would make a great member that would benefit a great deal from our group.  Since there were no objections, Dave will invite him to a breakfast meeting.  [APPLICATION - PART 1]

Jim Crosman was warned by the City about conducting business from his house even though he has a permit.  It appears that a neighbor complained about the 3 service vehicles that arrived each morning to get their work for the day.  Other members also conduct business from their homes.  You just have to be careful not to upset the neighbors.

During a conversation earlier in the week, Mike Tanner and Robert Busch began talking about how slow business gets during the month of July.  And since misery loves company....

How is business for you in July?

Mike Tanner - My business has decreased by half.

Robert Busch - Business has sky rocketed since this conversation.

Chris Curran - l couldn't tell you if l am up or down.  I am definitely busy.

Guy Sawyer - The last week of July (before school started) was the only slow week.  But that has changed since joining MABE.  Althea messed up my vacation schedule!

Keith Miller - We used to close during half of July and take our vacation.  Now that my wife has retired from teaching things have changed.

Gus Dekavallas - Business is way up.  We are clearly leaders in the industry.

Sandro Menasci - We advertise specials during the slow months.

Fred Vandervort - Most of our work is with businesses.  When other businesses are slow, we are slow.

Denver Johnson- The trees grow in the summer and the monsoons knock them down.

Joe Hesch - Slow.

John Passante - Moderate.

Dave Spiess - Good.

Althea Bussert - Very good except for the loonies.

Randy Clark - It has been funny and strange.

Bill LaLonde - Nobody wants their pool worked on at this time of year.

Reg Batt - Generally busy.

Roman Okonowski - Level.

Jim Crosman - Overwhelming!

Ralph Cunningham - Depends on the weather.

Mark Howard - The animals have decreased appetites.

Paul Kavanaugh - We follow the real estate market.

Bob Becker - In the real estate market we have had four straight months of July's.

Nick Mawrenko - Its all mental...If you think your July will be off it will be.

Joe Zingale - Our slow time is on the weekends.

Steve Chilton - l am working 8 days a week, 25 hours a day.   I have employee problems.

Don Ellis - We are up 2%.  But so are expenses so it averages out.

Bob Uber - It is typically a slow time for us but this year we are up .2% :)

Gary Nelson - Business has been soft but that is a good.  I have a chance to catch up.

Wayne Unruh - I still get calls but there is no urgency.

Phil Passante - This is our time of year!

Business Spotlight

John Passante was today's Business Spotlight.   About 60% of John's business is residential and the remaining 40% commercial.   His goal is to grow the commercial side of his business.  It is more profitable.  Unfortunately, his is finding many general contractors to be loyal to a sub-contractor and they are  just shopping him for price.  Any legitimate commercial leads you can offer him would be appreciated.

House Cleaning Item Clean out the junk in your glove box!

  • Credit card receipts - Especially older ones that have complete information printed on them.

  • Registration - You must keep your registration in your car.  Dave showed samples of acceptable registration forms.  But, the first one you get from the State is not fine.  It has personal information on it inclucing your drivers license number.

  • Contract - The contract from the dealership has personal information on it that should not be kept in the car.

  • Valet key - People working on your car will copy the key.  They have access to your address on a repair order.  A couple days later your car is stolen.

  • Any documents with your home address AND a garage does opener - Now the thieves know your address and have a way into your house.

  • While we are on the subject, always lock the door from your garage into your house just in case they do get into your garage.

  • Also change the code on your garage door opener - Don't keep the default code.  Thieves could easily get in if you do.

Prices: Sells price and lease amounts have gone down!

If you are an impulse buyer, I am probably not a good service for you.  I am a better fit for people planning their purchase.

I am not seeing a change in buying patterns.  People are still buying large vehicles despite the high gas prices.
